The Struve geodetic arc is inscribed on the
as property no. 1187.
The Brief Description and Long Description do not mention astronomy explicitly, but the triangulation arc represents an application of astronomy in modern times: the astronomer, Friedrich Georg Wilhelm Struve, created the arc in order to measure a long segment of a meridian and thus determine the precise size and shape of the planet. As the Brief Description states, it marked an important step in the development of earth sciences and topographic mapping.
